[Week 0] Legislative Update:

📢 YOUR State of the State 2026 update!
We watched Governor Little’s address yesterday and here are your digestible, bite sized updates. This summary will be focusing on education and health care, especially where they cross over into the everyday lives of children with disabilities or special health care needs.

🏫 Education:

    • Public schools remain protected: Even in tight budget conditions, the governor’s plan safeguards classroom funding and K-12 education as a priority.
    • Support for special education: In his speech, the Governor acknowledged new ideas from Idaho’s education leaders (he specifically gave a shout out to Idaho’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Debbie Critchfield) to better support students with special needs in schools.
    • Idaho LAUNCH continues: This workforce and training initiative helps young people prepare for in-demand careers.

❤️ Health and Well-Being, with an emphasis on rural communities:
Access to health care especially in rural Idaho is a core concern for parents and caregivers, and the governor’s address reiterated this:

    • Idaho is set to receive nearly $1 billion in federal funding over five years to improve rural health care access and affordability.
    • Workforce development efforts include investing in training and incentives to address physician and provider shortages, especially in Idaho’s rural and frontier communities.

Governor Little acknowledged Idaho faces challenges ahead, but emphasized the state’s strong economic standing, including personal income growth and job creation. His tone and message overall was “bet on Idaho”.
