Youth Corner

Halloween Safety

  • Discuss in advance the route you should follow. Call your parents if you plan to go on a street that isn’t on the route.
  • Follow a curfew (and make sure you have a watch with you).
  • Carry a white bag or pillowcase for your candy, and add some reflective tape.
  • Dress for the weather. Cold weather or water absorbent materials in the rain can be very uncomfortable.
  • Bring a cell phone if you can, in case you need to make an emergency phone call.
  • Always travel in groups. Be sure there are at least 3 of you at all times.
  • Let your parents know where you’re going to be at all times.
  • Don’t visit houses that are not well lit. Never go inside a stranger’s house.
  • Don’t criss-cross back and forth across the street. Work your way up one side of the street, and then start on the other.

Oreo Spider

Ingredients:

  • Oreo cookies
  • Black shoestring licorice
  • Icing
  • M&M Candies

Directions:

  • Cut the shoestring licorice into 2 to 2 1/2 inch pieces (scissors wok great for this).
  • Push the cut licorice pieces into the Oreo filling, 4 on each side, to look like spider legs
  • Places two small dots of icing at the top of the Oreo and then stick two M&M candies of the same color onto the icing to look like eyes (the icing is the glue to stick the candies on).
  • Repeat with the remaining cookies and candies
