Student-Led IEPs
What is a Student-Led IEP?
A student-led IEP allows you to have a say in your education, your goals, and the support you need to succeed.
Why Participate?
- No one knows what works for you better than you do.
- You learn to speak up for yourself.
- You get to set your own goals.
- Leading your IEP shows everyone (including yourself) that you are capable and in control of your future.
How to Participate
- Share what you like about school and what’s challenging.
- Learn about your accommodations and why they matter.
- Practice what you want to say.
- If something doesn’t make sense, ask and speak up.
- Introduce yourself and share your goals.
Getting Started
- Ask a teacher, counselor, or parent to help you prepare.
- Use tools and templates to guide you. The more you practice, the easier it gets.

¿Qué es un IEP Dirigido por Estudiantes?
Un IEP dirigido por estudiantes te permite opinar sobre tu educación, tus metas y el apoyo que necesitas para tener éxito.
¿Por qué participar?
- Nadie sabe mejor que tú qué funciona para ti.
- Aprendes a hablar por ti mismo.
- Puedes establecer tus propias metas.
- Liderar tu IEP demuestra a todos (incluyéndote a ti) que eres capaz y tienes el control de tu futuro.
Cómo participar
- Comparte qué te gusta de la escuela y qué te resulta difícil.
- Aprende sobre tus adaptaciones y por qué son importantes.
- Practica lo que quieres decir.
- Si algo no tiene sentido, pregunta y exprésate.
- Preséntate y comparte tus metas.
Cómo empezar
- Pide ayuda a un maestro, consejero o padre para prepararte.
- Usa herramientas y plantillas para guiarte. Cuanto más practiques, más fácil será.
