Working on a permanent 1915(c) paid family caregiver waiver program through CMS is the long term goal. Section 1135 Waivers have provided these allowances during the pandemic. Section 1135, allowed homecare agencies to hire parents and spouses of individuals with disabilities as caregivers for their loved ones under Home & Community Based Services (HCBS).
Parents are encouraged to share their stories of how this program has impacted their lives and how removal could be catastrophic in some cases, without providers to step in. Letters can be either sent by you to legislators, or we at IPUL will be accumulating them as well. Sample letters and tips on how to write letters of support, can be found on the Padlet and Google drive links posted above. If you would like us to send your letter, please email those to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
