Read this site in another language
Your browser can translate this site into your language, on any page, for free. Here’s how, on the browsers people use most.
Every modern browser can translate a web page for you, into more than a hundred languages. It works on any site, it’s free, and you don’t need to install anything. Find your browser below.
Chrome — computer, Android
- Right-click anywhere on the page. On Android, tap the three-dot menu.
- Choose Translate to…
- Pick your language. To change it later, click the three dots in the translate bar and choose another language.
If Chrome doesn’t offer to translate, check Settings › Languages and make sure Use Google Translate is turned on.
Edge — computer
- Look for the translate icon in the address bar, or right-click the page and choose Translate to…
- Choose your language and select Translate.
- Tick Always translate pages from English if you’d like Edge to do it automatically from now on.
Safari — iPhone and iPad
Safari needs to know which language you want before it offers to translate. This is the step most people get stuck on.
- Open Settings › General › Language & Region.
- Tap Add Language… and choose the language you want. When asked, keep your current language as the one your iPhone uses.
- Go back to Safari and open any page on this site.
- Tap aA at the left of the address bar, then Translate to…
Safari — Mac
- Click the translate icon at the right of the address bar.
- Choose Translate to… and pick your language.
Firefox — computer, Android
Firefox translates on your own device. Nothing you read is sent to anyone else, which is worth knowing if you’re reading about something private.
- Firefox usually offers to translate on its own. If it doesn’t, right-click the page and choose Translate page.
- Choose your language and select Translate.
- To see the English again, click the translate icon and choose Show original.
A few honest words about machine translation
It’s good, and it isn’t perfect. Specialist words — the names of programs, legal terms in special education, medical language — are where it’s most likely to go wrong, and those are often the words that matter most.
If something doesn’t read right, please ask us rather than guessing. We’d far rather explain it than have you act on a translation that came out wrong.
